From Truth To Wisdom

"Committing a great truth to memory is admirable; committing it to life
Is wisdom."  William A. Ward

Until recently, I hadn’t made a concerted effort to memorize scripture. As a child the first scripture that I committed to memory was:

Psalm 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

I have begun taking online Bible courses with Ames International School of Ministry, (you can find them at this URL) http://www.amesintl.org/ As is  true with any reputable Bible course, a certain amount of memorization is required ; and a part of the quiz after each chapter of material is to write the key verse from memory. The more I practice

memorization the easier it gets.

As a child and for quite a while into my adulthood, I thought that just memorizing that scripture would keep me out of trouble. If you have been following this blog at all in the last month or two, you know that knowledge did not work for me very well. There is nothing wrong with the Word; it was my beliefs about the Word that were wrong. It was,

also, my lack of commitment to incorporating the Word into my daily actions and behaviors, or “committing it to life” as Dr, Ward stated.

One of the loveliest attributes of the Word of God, is that Jesus is the Word of God. John 1:1 KJV says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

That equation says God and His Word are one. It also says that the Word of God is as old as God, who is eternal; therefore, the Word has always stood, the Word stands now, and the Word will stand forever. The Word is eternal.

Furthermore, John 1:14 KJV says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

That presents another equation which says, the eternal Word was made flesh, the eternal Word was begotten of the Father, the eternal Word is grace, the eternal Word is truth. Jesus is eternal, Jesus is grace, and Jesus is truth.

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John
8:32 NASB

What does this scripture tell us? It gives the answer to every problem, every mistake, every struggle and condition of mankind, past-present-and future. Know Jesus who is the eternal truth, and you will be made free.

A few years ago, I knew who Jesus was and I knew quite about Him. I was saved, but I had put myself in the position of being more like a fan of Jesus that a worshiper of Him. Circumstances of my life brought me to the place where I realized that I needed to know Him. I praise him from the very depths of my being for keeping me within His wonderfully encompassing love while I came to desire to know Him more and more.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools (the arrogant and self-sufficient, one who orders his life as if there were no God) despise wisdom and instruction." Proverbs 1:7 NASB

I am not perfect yet, but I praise God that I am no longer that one described in that verse.

Walk in wisdom today.

Have a great day; and remember who and Whose you are.
