The Postage Stamp

"Consider the postage stamp: its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing till it gets there."  Josh Billings

Our economic woes today started with the government making many a bail-out of businesses and private citizens. Business and private citizens alike, bought things they couldn’t pay for.  Lenders loaned money knowing that the status quo could not sustain itself. Everyone was looking to the government to take up the slack. No one wanted to stick to a payment plan or a budget.

People marry with the attitude that it can always be dissolved if it doesn't work out. Parents slough off their responsibility of rearing children to the grandparents. Kids drop out of school. People move from job to job. They move from church to church. Society, in general, lacks the “glue” to stick to any one thing for very long.

Faithfulness, the ability to stick to a thing to completion, steadfastness: these are things that God regards highly in his people. He has a reward for the faithful.

Has God called you to a task that you feel like giving up on? Is your “glue” dried up? Have you lost heart?  Don't quit. Be faithful. Let us say: "Father, make me as useful as a postage stamp. Fortify my ‘stick’ so I can finish the task set before me."

"And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."  Galatians 6:9 KJV

Have a great day; and remember who and Whose you are.
