The article referred to above is absolutely awesome. I left the URL so you could go over there and read it for yourselves. It is very enlightening, and may shed some light on some of the problems that we Christians so often encounter.
Over the years I have had a tendency to use my dad’s extensive knowledge of the scriptures as my own personal reference resource. I do not remember when he first began to limit my withdrawal from his knowledge repository; but I do know that I have heard, “Look it up for yourself” enough times that I no longer bother to ask him.
At first, it was a daunting task for me to find exactly the scripture reference that I was looking for. I actually had to spend more time familiarizing myself with the Bible, look up things on-line, and in general learn some things for myself. He did me a great favor, which took me a while to appreciate.
Things have changed to the extent that my children now call me from time to time and ask where a particular scripture can be found. I still don’t know the things that I feel that I should know. So I have set out to study and meditate on the Bible rather than just read it. Frankly, I am tired of being beset by problems that I know I should be able to glide right through.
Do not misunderstand me here. I am not talking about being beat down with guilt and condemnation when I mess up; because, I do mess up, on a regular basis. Sometimes it is several times a day; sometimes it is for several days in a row. None of us has arrived. We are subject to life here on this planet.
Jesus, the conquering and risen Savior is our salvation. He already paid the penalty of our sin-past, present and future-and we need but rest in that finished work and his perfection. Oh, what a glorious thing it is to know that when our Heavenly Father looks at us he sees us through the shed blood of Jesus. He sees us as perfect because of the blood of the Lamb.
Furthermore, He has provided for everything we need to be perfected in Christ. The greatest weapon we have in this spiritual battle we will wage until the very day that we arrive in heaven, is the Bible. It is the Word of God. It is real and alive and it will change you into the man or woman that God has planned for you to become. It is so important that God has magnified his word above his own name.
“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth; for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” Psalm 138:2
I have quite a bit more to say about the Word of God; so I will continue this next time.
“(16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (17) That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto to all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16 KJV
Have a great day; and remember who and Whose you are.
