That little quote is amusing; and it holds a slice of truth for me.
Quite some time ago, I worked at a face-paced deli-style sandwich shop. At shift change the workers gave oral instructions if anything outside of the normal range of chores was required.
The girl I relieved talked so fast and said so much that when we finally changed shift, my head was spinning and I had little recollection of what she had said. One time, I actually remembered what she said and did it. It turned out to be the wrong thing; and, of course, the boss was unhappy about the mix up.
I soon learned that what the boss wanted done and what my co-worker said to do were not always the same thing. I learned to go to the boss for direction.
That reminds me of how I used to count on my mom and dad’s Christian experiences and knowledge when I had questions, or a need to know what to do. Sometimes I heard things that were outside my area of experience, so I wasn’t always clear on what I should do.
I was content to rest in their knowledge. They never had steered me wrong, but I needed to know these things for myself. I needed to grow in my relationship with the Lord. I needed to mature.
Don’t misunderstand me, it is important to have mature brothers and sisters in the Lord to guide and advise you. The Lord has set pastors and teachers over us, as well, to help us to learn on to maturity in the Lord.
It is a difficult path some times; but the most important thing to remember is that it is all about Jesus. The more you get to know Him, the more you will want to know Him. Knowing Jesus is the most important thing in this world, in the world to come, and in whatever else there will be after this life.
That is what he wants most from us—a personal relationship. He died to get it!
"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith towards God, (2) Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. (3) And this will we do, if God permit." Hebrews 6:1-3 KJV
Have a great day; and remember who and Whose you are.
